Acting for the Microphone

Voice Over 1

Orientation to the skills of voice over acting using a combination of lectures and hands on experience. Course focuses on radio commercials, narration, and animation/character voices, as well as industrial work, demo production, and marketing. Class culminates with SAG/AFTRA agent visit. (6 weeks, 18 hours)

Voice Over 2

Continuing study of voice over using more advanced material. Material chosen specifically to the needs of each student. Class culminates with a field trip to a commercial recording studio where students read before a current voice-caster/producer. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Voice Over 3: Industrial, Tradeshow, Wireless Ear Prompter

Students are taught skills necessary to perform the work of a spokesperson in industrial and trade-show work. Students learn to become proficient on the TelePrompTer and the wireless ear prompter. Last class is visited by an SAG/AFTRA agent who specializes in spokes projects. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Voice Over 4: Radio Theater, Audiobooks, Dialects

Students learn skills to perform vocal work in radio theater and books-on-tape, which are very similar in nature. The regional dialects of New York, American Southern, American North Eastern, and British are developed. Class culminates with a field trip to a major recording studio to read for an Audiobook producer. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Voice Over 5: Advanced Animation

Intensive advanced work on animation voices. Students learn to create and sustain original characters. Class culminates with a field trip to a major recording studio for an ADR/Looping session for cartoons and film. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Voice Over 6: Advanced Narration

Refining interpretation skills, focus, and delivery for strength and consistency. Geared toward material such as travelogues, The History Channel, Biography, and instructional tapes and videos. Class includes field trips to major Narration production studios to read for documentary producers, guest artists and casting directors for narration projects. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Acting for the Camera

Television Commercial Workshop

Orientation to the world of television commercials including lectures and camera techniques. Course focuses on product endorsement, single and multiple spots, video playback, and critique and self-submission skills. SAG/AFTRA agents attend last session. (6 weeks, 18 hours)

Film 1: Introduction to Film Acting Techniques

Analysis of the audition process, comparing method, classical, and being disciplines. Course focuses on improvisation, preparing a monologue, dialogue scenes prepared and critiqued. Final class visited by a SAG/AFTRA agent. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Film 2: Production

A technical approach to film acting. Course focuses on multiple camera technique, hitting marks, camera blocking, close-ups and inserts,working with stand-ins and camera-angles. Guests include film directors of current sit-coms, soaps, and industrials. (6 weeks, 12 hours)

Class duration and cost

Classes run one session per week for 6 to 8 weeks, two to three hours per week.

Tuition ranges from $345 to $595 per course.

Registration applies only to class date on form. No transfers. Students have six months to make up any session missed.
